From Gummy to Gorgeous
Do you suffer from a gummy smile? This means that you have too much gum relative to the size of your teeth. The cause of gummy smiles may be due to teeth grinding, a short upper lip, a long upper jawbone, or a combination of these things. Whatever the reason, excess gums diminish the beauty of your smile. Instead of people noticing your pearly whites, they're looking at your gum line.
On the opposite end of the spectrum is the long tooth smile. This is often due to a receding gum line. This can become a serious problem as receding gums may lead to root sensitivity or even loss of teeth.
Both the gummy smile and the long tooth smile are easy to rectify through a procedure called gum recontouring. Gum recontouring is a simple surgical procedure we use to change the shape and appearance of your gums and improve the look of your smile.
In order to fix your gummy smile, Dr. Wendling will recontour your gums by removing excess tissue. She'll also reshape the gums to create a normal gum line appearance. If you have a long tooth smile, Dr. Wendling will refer you to a periodontist for a grafting procedure. Not only does this restore your normal smile, it also reinforces your gums and teeth.
