Crown or Implant? When It’s Best to Let a Tooth Go

You should always try to save your natural tooth by placing a protective dental crown, when possible. However, in cases where a tooth is too badly damaged or becomes infected, saving a tooth may not be possible. If this is the case, it is best to have the tooth pulled, and have a dental implant inserted. A dental implant acts as your tooth's root, and can hold a restoration in place.

A dental crown:

  • Protects and strengthens damaged teeth, restoring their natural shape
  • Works well for both front teeth and molars
  • Is stain-resistant
  • Can be fit in just two visits
  • Is made of porcelain, providing an aesthetically pleasing and natural look
  • Adds strength to your bite, allowing you to eat a normal and healthy diet

A dental implant:

  • Feels, functions and looks like your real teeth
  • Is long-lasting - many last a lifetime
  • Does not make the embarrassing clicking noises that dentures often do
  • Is more secure than dentures, allowing you to eat your favorite foods
  • Replaces one or multiple teeth without affecting your adjacent teeth
  • Fills the void of an empty space, thereby increasing your self esteem
