Porcelain inlays and onlays are a safe, strong, and natural looking alternative to traditional fillings, for repairing teeth that have been damaged by decay or injury.
They are custom crafted in a laboratory, then permanently adhered to your teeth, restoring their health and strength.
Onlays vs. Inlays
Inlays and onlays differ in size. A porcelain inlay fits within the tooth’s cusps. A porcelain onlay extends over one or more sides, filling larger cavities.
The porcelain inlay and onlay procedure
There are two stages.
- Preparation – The damaged teeth are prepared by clearing away all decayed tissue and bacterial debris. Then the surface is shaped. Finally, we will take a precise custom mold of the tooth. We will then send this mold to one of our carefully selected dental laboratories, where they will fabricate a porcelain inlay or onlay for you, based on precise measurements and information we give them.
- You can examine your inlay or onlay before we place it in your tooth. It will fit like a puzzle piece into the damaged and cleaned-out tooth, creating a smooth and seamless repair that is visually undetectable. We will make any minor adjustments necessary to ensure that your bite is aligned properly and the repair is comfortably and securely attached.
